The Curriculum-Aids Group is made up of college-writing curricula formatted as instructional, self-guiding serials or instruction packets. These texts are designed to help a college student, or even a high-school writer soon bound for college, to gain certain skills that are often assumed in the college-writing environment. These skills include a grasp of sentence grammar, a mature prose style, a sense of the dynamics of academic argumentation, and an ability to document sources and evidence properly.

The five Curriculum Aids are Swordfish (sentence mechanics), Stingray (argumentative voice and citation skills), Sparkplug (a research-aid packet for research in communication topics), Laurel Leaf (literary terms, scansion, and poetry), and Firefly (literary style and imitation).

While no text can be entirely self-explanatory, these texts strive toward this goal by starting with the very basics and working slowly toward the goal of a solid understanding of the end concepts. Challenging assignments, projects, and tests bolster students' motivation, and opportunities abound for students to submit creative and inventive work for publication.
